I visited San Diego, California from June 7 to June 12, 2011, including the opportunity to attend the Consultantsf Training Institute conference with about 650 professionals. |
| This is not a sightseeing trip, but an opportunity to learn new things. Many people have asked about the earthquake and the related problems in Japan. I am confident that the people of Japan will remain strong and work together to repair the damage caused to our country. I am fortunate that I did not suffer any direct damage. However, my exhibition planned for January of 2012 in Tokyo has been postponed for one year because of the problems that were caused by the earthquake and the nuclear plant problems. While I am disappointed, it is a small thing compared to the problems faced by many others. I am confident that Japan will work hard to solve its problems, and I will do my best for Japan and for my exhibition when it is rescheduled. I am only thinking of the positive things will come from this disaster. |

| Although I have made presentations at various art museums and teachersf conferences, this was a new experience to attend a different kind of conference. This was an opportunity to see and learn new topics in English instead of my native Japanese language. I learned some new techniques that I hope to apply in my future art presentations. I also enjoyed meeting with many new people. Most of the time I am completely focused on my quilting and weaving work, but it is important to expand my mind with different topics like this. |

I was also fortunate to be able to visit several art museums in Balboa Park, including the Mingei International Museum. I saw several interesting exhibitions, including some textiles and Japanese oriented displays. |

| The conference was held at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel. I enjoyed viewing the San Diego harbor from my hotel window every morning. |

| I was most surprised that the temperature was like early Spring, not the
hot temperatures of Summer that I expected. The strong breeze from the ocean was especially cool, and I needed long sleeved shirts and jackets every night! But that did not stop me from also enjoying a San Diego Padres baseball game at the beautiful ballpark across the road from my hotel. |
