Boston studio news; May 2010
| May 1, 2010: I cleaning my new raw wool from sheep at the Wachusett Meadows Farm in Massachusetts. This is the beginning of my new wool projects for 2010. This wool is from a Merino/Romney mixed breed sheep.I will soon get additional wool from other sheep at this farm. The sheep are used for grazing on the meadows of the Audubon Sanctuary to preserve the grassy open spaces. |  |

| On May 5, 2010: I attended the Fuller Craft Musuem lecture and special event presented by Dr. Catherine S. Amidon, a Fulbright-Hayes scholar and director of the Karl Drerup Art Gallery and Exhibitions Program at Plymouth State University. She discussed the work of several fiber artists, including Fiber Arts and how they influenced the fiber arts of Poland and the US. I had a great time at the lecture, and was pleased to learn more about other cultures and their use of fiber arts. | ||
| May 22, 2010: I was fortunate to be invited to a sheep farm to view the Spring shearing. Some of the sheep are Cormo sheep, which are prized for their wonderful wool. I was very happy to get the fleece from one Cormo. They were protected with a special coat all winter, so the wool is very high quality. I spent the rest of the weekend working very hard to clean the wool, and prepare for the next steps of carding and spinning. The children also enjoyed touching the wool to feel the lanolin and the different textures of the wool from different kinds of sheep. |  |

May 24, 2010: I attended a special lecture at the MFA-Boston presented by the curator of the textile and fashion arts department. The lecture was about The Scaasi Archive, which will open with a special exhibition later this year. Arnold Scaasi was one of the top fashion designers in the US from the 1950's through the 1980's. | May 25, 2010: I participated in an all day tour of the studios of six different artists in Rhode Island. The trip was sponsored by the Fuller Craft Museum, and included about 20 artists. This was a long, hot, but fun filled day. |  |
