2015 February Boston Studio News

On Sunday, February 1 It was the first day after a heavy snowstorm, so my Woods End studio was blanketed by beautiful snow. I have several bird feeders just outside my dining room window. This helps many birds survive the harsh winter, and I can enjoy watching them. My favorites include several Cardinals and a Downy Woodpecker that especially enjoys the suet feeder closest to my window. |

At the opposite end of my home I have an interesting evergreen bush that
is very similar to my Shari studio. I am also enjoying the work of shoveling snow around my entrance before I come back inside to warm up and enjoy reading a book or working on my piecing. The Boston weather this year is especially cold and snowy. The temperature is seldom above -5 degrees Centigrade, and has gotten as cold as -20 degrees a few nights. The snow is now about 75 centimeters, and another 25 is expected to arrive tomorrow ! |

| The following Sunday I visited the MFA. From the Huntington entrance, I
went upstairs in the rotunda area where they have a very interesting exhibit
of antique kilim rugs. Since I also enjoy weaving, and I know the process for making a rug, I was very interested in this different approach to weaving. I have been studying more about Kilim and also Sumac, which I find even more interesting. |

| Of course I also continue to enjoy my cooking :))... I especially enjoy
hot soups. This is the start of pumpkin and scallops curry soup that I was making for several friends who were coming for dinner. I also made sushi, and enjoyed the friendships. Yes, it is hard work, but the it is worth it because it is a good opportunity to enjoy sharing and growing friendship with many others |

| You can also see my Japanese lacquer two level box (Urushi-nuri Jubako) that was a New Year's gift from Ito-san, a dear friend in Nagoya. Her kindness helps keep me from becoming homesick for my Hokkaido shari studio in Japan. |
| In February and March I have invitations to many concerts and other events. I enjoyed a concert at the New England Conservatory and a charity concert that included an amazing performance of several concertos for chamber music by Mendelssohn. |

I am also taking advantage of winter to focus on continuing my piecing
every day on my second major hexagonal log cabin quilt. I am also preparing for my exhibition in Nantes, France in April; and I hope this will allow more people from around the world to learn more about Japanese textiles and my works. And,if someone has some good recommendations for farmers markets, restaurants, or bakeries in Nantes or Paris, please let me know. :) And if you are in Europe, I hope you will come see the Nantes Quilt show ! |

PS: Now that I have moved to my Woods End studio, I have discovered the
Dedham House of Pizza that makes a very delicious veggie pizza that I enjoy
as often as I can !! Yes, I am very much enjoying winter life at my studio!...and I hope you too!! |
