New project with linen. Title: Imagine – In the Box

The sunrise in Boston is about 6:30 am. This is the view from my studio looking at the sunrise over Boston harbor in the distance.
In October I started a new project with linen material that remained from making linen quilts over the past 35 years.
This time my idea is to make small linen boxes with patchwork applique or just linen fabric, with each a different technique to invite the viewer’s own imagination
.
Also I am trying to follow the Ainu motif (Hokkaido Island’s earliest residents).
Many Ainu families continue to live in the area around my Shari studio.
Also in August of 2016 I researched the Ainu textile history with the former MFA curator.
I have not previously made any Ainu motif quilts, but now I am enjoying combining the Log cabin (which is a well-known by quilters around the world) with Ainu applique.
I believe this is a unique style Quilt!...Everyday I am looking forward to making another new Box !
Unfortunately this Corona pandemic has prevented me from returning to my Hokkaido studio last summer.
I usually bring back more material to Boston when I return in the Fall. But now I have limited material...
Winter is coming soon...so I am enjoying using my woodstove with Shadow, my cat !
I am showing some photos of my work in progress with my greeting. If you are interested or have any questions please let me know...
Be Safe, Be Well !!
