Two Hearts in Harmony

QUILTS sewn with the feelings of her heart is how Tomie Nagano describes her dream, to preserve the history of cloth making in Japan.  Tomie's quilt making journey started at 36 years of age when her mother gave her kimonos belonging to her grandparents, pioneers of their time.  It was a life changing experience for Tomie.  Currently on loan from the Toowoomba Art Gallery, Two Hearts in Harmony features 'incredible workmanship' as described by Julie McGilvray and Bev Stevenson commented that 'Tomie has dedicated her life to expressing her feelings in her quilts'.  The exhibition features many quilts that have been hand sewn, some pieces taking up to eight months to complete.  Chairman of the Arts Committee Sharon Kirk had great pleasure in welcoming Tomie to Springsure and thanked her for bringing her work to the Bauhinia Bicentennial Art Gallery.  Tomie expressed her delight in being in Springsure, visiting the local state school and staying on property Meroo Downs.  Two Hearts in Harmony will be on exhibition until Friday 17th March.
